Fox Manor

The Attic - The School Room Update

Hello everyone,

I hope you've all been enjoying the Summer.  We have had the usual rain and drizzle... what's new lol

Anyway, thank you all for your lovely comments on my School Room they are always greatly appreciated!

I had a dilemma in my last post with the problem of writing on my blackboard and the children's slates.  I have to say thank you to all of your suggestions, but I thought long and hard and eventually came up with a wonderful solution...what do you think?

The little writing slate to the left has the initials of my daughters, Siobhan and Caroline.

Can you see the chalk between the pointer and duster?

Would you believe I used an old fashioned nail pencil!!  It is white, hard and looks like chalk on my boards - happy days :)  I have a piece of it on the blackboard as you can see in the picture above.

I remember my mother, the smoker, using a pencil like this to whiten under her nails.  She was a very stylish lady in her day.  Sadly she is no longer with us; but she would have laughed, I think, to see how I have put a nail pencil to use.  Mind you, knowing me, she probably wouldn't have been a bit surprised :)

Oh, I have a gorgeous apple sitting on the Governess' desk - as suggested by Irene....

Now, all I have to do is pin someone down to take a picture of me with my Manor!!

All the best for now, and take care.

Vivian

    1. Thank you Grandmommy! Yes, I bought this pencil in Superdrug in UK, I think it was Superdrug! I did have to go around a few shops and get some strange looks of young assistants....but I got it in the end :)

  3. Hi Vivian, that was a great idea of yours to use the nail pencil. It's amazing how we all re-purpose everyday objects for the benefit of our miniatures. I love the placement of the apple, it adds another element of realism in the room. The room looks beautiful. Jayne

I must say, this room looks like a real life set for a period movie. It is wonderful. The writing is just the perfect touch and the use of the pencil is very clever. Terrific work!

  6. Great additions to the school room! They add so much atmosphere! It is the tiny touches like the "chalk" that make so much difference in the realism! Where are the children....? Off with the Governess for the afternoon walk in the Park?

  7. Excellent additions Vivian and it's nice to see the update. Thank you for including the apple (it's such a nice one too!). Despite saying earlier that this would be your only house what are you planning for your next one (because we all know one is never enough)? :-)

    1. Hello Irene,
I'm so glad you like the apple :) only for you!!!!!
I have been busy with other little projects and RL so I haven't even got around to sorting out the front of the Manor yet! LOL We'll see how that goes, because I'm a devil for starting several things at one time :) (It drives my hubby to distraction!)

  9. Hi Vivian! As you know, I already LOVED the school room before your wonderful small touches..they have taken everything up a notch to create a wonderful sense of realism that makes me want to go to school again! I especially love the little school desk with it's student chalk boards and little ink wells. You created "a moment"!

    Great job!
